FOOTBALL | Mansfield 6.8 – 44 v Echuca 8.13 – 61

Our performance on the weekend was a lot better. For the first time in the last 4 weeks we were able to put together a solid 4 quarter performance. Unfortunately the result didn’t quite go our way; however, we showed the sort of performance that we are capable of.

All week I was strong in my message that our effort and intensity was not at a level that we expect it to be. Saturday’s game was an example of just how far effort can get you. We were able to match it with one of the best sides in the competition, despite having a number of players unavailable for selection.

With a full cycle of the draw now completed we are 2 wins out of the top 6. The next two games leading into the bye are critical for our Football Club. If we wish to give ourselves any hope of making finals we need to improve. We need to keep ourselves in the hunt to capitalise on our returning players in the back half of the season.

NETBALL | Mansfield 36 v Echuca 46

Reflecting on last weeks game, the disappointment of the close loss to Rochester was still raw amongst the team. We hoped to use that pain to come out firing against last years premiers Echuca.

And that we did. The first quarter play was one of the best quarters of netball we have been able to produce all year. Pleasingly, our attack end, were able to implement our structures and rotations with ease. Our goalers shooting at an astonishing 100% saw us  go into the first quarter break 5 goals up.

After our incredible first quarter, Echuca came into the game with a new found fight. The next 2 quarters saw a tough even battle from both sides. The defensive pressure of both teams continued to build. Jess Walker proved again this week how strong her hands over the goalers shot is, pulling in countless rebounds.

our ability to fight back in the second half was more then impressive.

I am super proud of how we played on Saturday. It was great to see our hard work on movement, structures and systems really pay off on court. The leadership and composure of captain Darcy Croxford-Demasi running through the Center helped keep us in the game.

Unfortunately, the experience and maturity of Echuca was too much in the end. They were able to stay composed and run over the top of us in the final quarter. As a team we will continue to work on producing this level of netball for the whole game.
