FOOTBALL | Mansfield 13.10 – 88 v Shepparton United 7.4 – 46

It was another good performance by us over the weekend. Our defence has improved immensely over the last 3 weeks which has been the driving force behind the results. The importance of being organised on defence is highlighted by the below statistics of our year to date:

The most promising thing over the last two weeks has been our ability to control the game in the last quarter. This is encouraging when both our games have been on the line.

** First 2 Rounds – Ranked 2nd last in defence conceding a total of 188 points for the 2 games. (Only Mooroopna were worse conceding 235 points)

** Last 3 Rounds – Ranked 2nd in defence conceding a total of 156 points for the 3 games. (Only Kyabram were better conceding 145 points)

The most promising thing over the last two weeks has been our ability to control the game in the last quarter.

It will be a big test for us this weekend against Kyabram who are currently the top ranked side on offence.

NETBALL | Mansfield 26 v Shepparton United 45

We had to alter our preparation for the game against Shepparton United on Saturday. Shepparton United are undefeated this season and always a hard fought game. We focused on our court structures and how we needed to execute them.

Having a couple of players out of our starting 7 provides players such as young Grace Thomson a great opportunity. Grace is known for her ability to come on court and have an impact straight away. On Saturday she was also able to play composed netball and link fluently with the other attackers on court.

As a team I felt we were able to not only compete against Shepparton United, but also at times get on top of them.

As a team I felt we were able to not only compete against Shepparton United, but also at times get on top of them. Our ability to keep such a dominant team to only 45 goals, shows how strong our defensive end is performing. Continually, week in and week out we are able to match up against any team in the league.

In preparation for Round 6 against Kyabram, we will focus on utilising our goalers strengths. Providing them more opportunities to score is vital to our success this season.
