FOOTBALL | Mansfield 11.4 – 70 v Shepparton 12.13 – 85
Looking back over the last two game results, they have have been really disappointing for us. However, our effort on the weekend was far better despite the result not going our way on the day.
During the game against Shepparton on Saturday, we were unable to get any real flow into our ball movement. Due to the lack of ball movement our opposition dropped numbers into the back half and allowed them to intercept the ball. It felt like every time we went inside our 50m Forward zone, they had three players competing in the air against our one player.
After a frustrating first half we needed to open the game up by speeding up our ball movement and not allowing the opposition to drop their players back. It was pleasing that we managed to achieve this in the 3rd quarter. Our team played a more aggressive run and carry game which resulted in us getting back into the game.
In order for us to remain competitive we need to find an efficient means of transitioning the ball from our defensive half to our forward line.Andrew Browne – Senior Football Coach
However, after our promising play in the 3rd quarter, the last quarter was a different story. It was unfortunate that as a team we went back into our shell and played a slower brand of football. I think after conceding a couple of early scores in the quarter we changed our approach to the game..
Over the last few games we have lost a number of our key running players through injury. In order for us to remain competitive we need to find an efficient means of transitioning the ball from our defensive half to our forward line. That will be the focus of training this week.

NETBALL | Mansfield 31 v Shapparton 46
It was a big game for our A-Graders on the weekend coming up against 2018 Runner Up the Shepparton Bears. The Bears are always a competitive and consistent unit. Their style of play is the the benchmark in this league.
Our main focus going into the game was to push the Bears for the entire game. Our team came out firing and we started the game with speed and enthusiasm. A lapse in concentration at the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second, allowed the Bears to take an early lead.
I must give credit our players for their second half performance. All our players lifted their effort and competed with the intensity needed to compete with better teams in our competition. Our team effort to be only outscored by 6 in the second half is a very commendable effort by our girls.

Credit to our players, the second half saw a huge lift in intensity…
It was great to be a part of the breakthrough for our Goaler, Amy Dixon Reilly. Her hard work off the court has paid off with a convincing performance. She was a unanimous best on court for the Eagles A-Grade Netball team.
Next week against Rochester away is another huge challenge for our girls. If we continue playing as a group with a consistent four quarter display, we will be in with a great chance to bring home another win.
