The GVL Board met this evening to review the advice and updated COVID-19 regulations issued by the Victorian State Government and the implications for the future of the 2020 Junior competition.
It was decided unanimously that the risks far outweigh the benefits and that the season would be cancelled. Club Presidents were informed immediately.
As disappointing as this is for our junior footballers and netballers, the Club’s number one priority remains the health and wellbeing of our community – our players, supporters and volunteers.
I personally extend sincere thanks to the MFNC committee and coaches. They have worked extremely hard as a team since January, planning training sessions and events and gathering support and enthusiasm throughout the community.
A huge amount of work has been done behind the scenes and we are proud that we saw our youngest players thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to play on our home ground.
I would especially like to thank our Sponsors. 2020 has proven to be an extraordinary challenge for us all and yet they have continued to support our Eagle family. Without them we wouldn’t have a club.
I thank and congratulate our players for their dedication. The strong numbers at all training sessions was an indication that the Juniors were keen to run out onto the court and oval. Many players and their parents commented on the positive benefits that team sport and fitness has provided in challenging times.
Although play has been put on hold, the Club is standing firm and is there to lend a hand. I urge anyone who is experiencing difficulties to reach out to myself or a committee member for assistance.
Finally, I want to remind everyone that we live in a remarkable and caring community. There are many amazing people involved in both the Mansfield Football Netball Club and the Mansfield Junior Football Club who work tirelessly to make things run like clockwork.
I hope to see you all back at the Club in 2021 and until then –
Stay safe and stay connected.
