Presidents Message – Welcome to Season 2023

A big welcome to everyone to season 2023 and the Mansfield Football Netball Club has certainly been busy since November in readiness to this coming season. All footy and netball personnel are back in full swing since the Christmas break and all looking forward to a positive 2023 season.

On the football side of things Chad Owens is still the Senior Coach, Mitch Wareham has been appointed Assistant, Bo Christopher, Football Manager and Andy Allen, Senior Team Manager. Jacob Howes has been appointed Reserves coach and his assistant will be Christian Thomson. A big welcome back to Jacob and good luck for this coming season. Reserves Team Manager will once again be Paul Christopher. Davey Holliday is coaching the Thirds again and his assistant for this season is Travis Purcell. Stephen Bolitho will continue as team manager.

All players from last season have committed to this coming season with added new senior inclusions including Lochie Dale (Fraser Dale’s brother) and Dan Legget, at this stage. A big welcome to those players and they have been working hard on the training track. We will be desperately trying to continue on from the excellent form of last season. It was a good 2022 for the club, the first time the Eagles had three footy teams in the GV finals. Another plus was the seniors reaching a Preliminary final.

Nelle Cousins has been reappointed A-Grade Netball coach for this season. Nelle did a great job last season against the tough GV netball competition and with the returning to the club of former players, Darcy Croxford-Demasi, Emily Hutchins and Amy Dixon-Reilly the clubs A-Grade should be much more competitive this season. All other girls have committed to this season and it all sounds good for our netballers this season. Latoya Wards is the B-Grade coach and she is also in control of the Under 17s. Leonie Berry will once again coach the Under 15s and B-Reserve coach announcement is only days away. Caroline Trenfield has been appointed the new netball director and the club is extremely happy to have such good quality people in control of all our footy and netball teams for this coming season.

The highlight of the netball for the club last season was the excellent form of B-Reserve making the Grand Final and unfortunately just going down to the strong Seymour club. The other pleasing thing last season was the excellent form of our Under 15s and 17s. These girls are back in full swing and look as if they will be future stars for the club.

The club’s $10 membership will continue this season. We are committed to this form of membership and are extremely pleased with the way people have responded to this form of membership with about 2000 members on the club’s list last season. The club just wants to put something back to the community, a more affordable form of membership for everyone.

Another form of Membership is the 500 Club if people want to go a little higher and support the club.

However, we are extremely happy in the way the community has responded to this new initiative and we encourage all present and new members to get on board and support all footy and netballers for this coming season. At this stage it appears we will be in for some great performances from our footballers and netballers this coming season, so get on board and enjoy the ride.

All supporters are reminded that the social rooms will be open Thursdays from 5 pm. So come on down and watch our players training and take the opportunity to purchase your memberships.

Regards – Ray Robinson, Club President.
